Equally Screwed In A Nondiscriminatory Manner
While the American people are celebrating what they thought was a victory over despotic legislation in the Senate, California’s Democratic Senators Feinstein, Boxer and Sanchez are entertaining the nation with a three part harmony of blame for racists, xenophobes and, oddly enough, radio talk show hosts while most of their fellow Democrats in the Senate are content to point the bony finger of blame at the Republican side of the house or better yet, at President Bush; meanwhile, the holes in the Senate immigration reform bill (aka The Amnesty Bill) are now being patched with duct tape and the hot air compressor is being primed to, once again, pump the cut-n-paste reform bill back to life so our elected “representatives, can try to pass it next week.
Republican Senators Saxby Chambliss of Georgia and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina were confronted by their own outraged constituents at their own state Republican Senators Saxby Chambliss of Georgia and Lindsay Graham of South Carolina were confronted by their outraged constituents at their own state conventions and loudly booed for their support of the Senate amnesty bill S. 1348.
Senator Lamar Alexander decided to confront the issue head on with a town hall meeting that was quickly filled with angry voters from his district eager to give him a piece of their mind about his support for the amnesty bill.
Angry constituents protested in the streets in front of the district office of Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi and the same thing happened to Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona
Every Senate office in Washington, Republican and Democrat, has been inundated for weeks by phone calls, faxes and email from irate American citizens opposing the Senate amnesty bill.
Republicans in Arizona have been publicly tearing up their voter registration cards in protest
Inconceivably, George W. Bush’s already abysmal public approval rating has dropped almost entirely off the spectrum as his willingness to sell out the Country he is suppose to be leading becomes more evident with each passing day.
The Republican National Committee saw a 40 percent drop in small-donor contributions and American voters are abandoning both the GOP and the Democratic Party in record numbers and the ranks of the Independents continues to swell with American voters incensed over the Senates attempt to force their fraudulent immigration reform bill down the throats of the American people.
Oddly enough, there has not been one word in the media about Democratic politicians being accosted by their constituents, about protests in front of Democratic headquarters or about Democrats being hollered at by crowds of angry American voters.
Granted, the conservatively inclined citizens of this nation have sufficient justification for their outrage. Many of the Republican representatives in Washington have surprised us by quickly slipping the old filleting knife into our unprotected backsides while we were otherwise engaged and I would be the last one to say that they should not be strung up from light poles across the nation for this treachery. However, we need to remember, Conservatives and liberals alike, that Senate Bill 1348 was a compromise effort of both parties. The liberally inclined segment of American society is not immune to being taxed into a state of poverty. Their wages are as much at risk as the wages of their conservative brothers and sisters in the event this nation finds itself with a surplus of 20 or 30 million unskilled workers who are willing to take anyone’s job for half the pay. Are Democrats more willing to give up their nice apartments, their BMWs and their wide-screen televisions than Republicans? I don’t think so. Are Democrats going to be overjoyed by the opportunity to sit back and watch their neighborhoods turn into slums overnight? I don’t think so. The simple truth is that this is not a Democratic Issue nor is it a Republican issue. This is an issue of the American people. It is not about race. It is not about culture and, it certainly has nothing to do with hate. This is an issue of common sense survival for the people who lawfully reside in this country and it needs to be solved in a manner that benefits the economic and national security interests of the United States. Regardless of what the Democratic politicians might say, the common people of this country who habitually vote for Democratic candidates are going to be every bit as screwed as the most conservative of Republicans if we sit back on our collective butts and allow Washington to pass this ridiculous legislation into law. We will all be screwed equally and, without regard for political affiliation.
The United States of America is a nation of legal immigrants and laws. It would be contrary to the best interests of our society to reward any form of criminal behavior and, it is entirely unacceptable to think that we would reward the illegal aliens with American citizenship after they violated our immigration laws by sneaking into this country without authorization and then continued to violate our laws by working here illegally, violated our tax laws by not paying income taxes, violated our DMV laws and regulations by driving automobiles without valid licenses or insurance and an entire collection of other American laws both major and minor. Admittedly, they are a poor group of people, economically speaking, but so are three-quarters of the people on the planet and we certainly can’t save everyone. If we are going to start handing out windfall American citizenship to the impoverished people of the world it would be a lot more prudent to find prospective recipients who would honor our nation’s laws and regulations rather than simply handing it out to a group of criminals who were clever enough to slip past our overtaxed border patrol agents and avoid apprehension while they continued to violate American laws as if they didn’t exist.
The American people have spoken loud and clear. Further attempts to pass an immigration reform bill that benefits illegal aliens at the great expense of the American citizens will result in a massive backlash by the American people and, I personally hope it is big enough to destroy both parties forever. We must end the de facto amnesty that now exists and regardless of the hardship or the pain it causes us, we must strictly enforce our immigration laws equally for everyone, without regard for their country of origin or the color of their skin but, most importantly of all we must ensure that all future legislative activity in the Senate or the House of Representatives represents the will of the American people and not the demands of foreign governments, special interest groups or large corporations. This is our country and our government, the sooner this fact becomes known in Washington the better off everyone will be.
